Positively June!

It is positively June, at last!

June, June, the first day of June.
I am so happy you are are here, I am singing a tune!

The sun has welcomed the month and invited my irises to unfold and give my flower garden a new palette of purples and blues!  June is a month of countdowns to summer, wrapping up, moving on, and dreaming about what may come.  June is month of field trips, camping, outdoor sports, Father's Day, Jazz Festivals and baby birds.  June, why did it seem so long for you to arrive?

Last June, while camping in a campground not far from our prairie home, and rising early to go fishing, I spotted a nest of three owlets in a larch tree.  The nest was not very high up in the tree! The photos are of the eldest owlet.  The other two sibling simply snuggled and snoozed, but this brave one curiously posed as its mother cautiously kept a protective watch in the cottonwood trees behind me.  The surrounding area below the larch told an interesting story.  There were many downy feathers and duck heads on the ground.  There was even meat hanging from a branch, creepy eh?
I wonder if there will be new owlets this year?  I am going to go to the lake this weekend and find out!

Welcome June!

  1. What's not to love .... baby owlets!!!! Well, since you follow along with my blog you probably know about 'Olive,' so I always admire sweet shots of Great Horned Owls and these are indeed 'sweet!'

    1. I have had the pleasure of viewing your Olive and Gena Lacoste's painting of her as well! I am always on the look out for owls. I few years ago I spent the whole month of May visiting a mother and her owlet in a tree done the road from us. It was amazing seeing the development of the owlet. Since I have owl in my last name , I feel even more connected to them. My favourite prairie novel is Farley Mowat's Owls in the Family.

Thanks for leaving specific comments, they warm my Canadian heArt!
