Positively My First Watercolour Horse, Release

Release

This is positively my first watercolour horse I have ever painted!  I did not allow myself to use pencil and whatever marks I made on the page, I had to live with.  With my new mantra "Release", I figured it was time to release my inhibitions about painting a horse with watercolour, and give it my best try.  I am going to name this horse, "Release"!

I looked off of a card given to me by a favourite local artist, Gena LaCoste (there is a link on the right side bar to her wonderful daily paintings), to guide me with possible colours I could use.  Gena's passion is painting horses in watercolour. She expertly sees the colours and light that are really there and only uses primary colours.

I also only used primary colour in combination with a fine tipped black marker.  There is something about watercolours and fine tipped black markers that makes my heart giggle!  I think I am positively pleased with my first attempt.  My next challenge is to pay attention to perspective, as usual.  Oh well, have to start somewhere!....Release!

A little late to join the party, but I am linking the to Paint Party Friday!  Happy March everyone and thank you for all of your support lately.  You have motivated me to keep creating and trying new things...Release!

  1. yahoo! Giddy - up! What a fun painting! It made me smile right off. I love it Renee. Good job for your first one. I wanted to thank you as well for your suggestion of reading "The Artists Way". I had read it many years ago, or parts of it at least but think perhaps it is time to re-visit it. It resides in a dusty corner somewhere, neglected and forlorn. It was a very good book indeed! Hope all is well in your world, with lots of paint flowing.

  5. Welcome, Pauline! I figured hat is the worst thing that can happen if I share my watercolour horse, someone doesn't like it and doesn't leave a comment. Oh, well! It turns out I gained a new follower! Chocolate yummy!

  9. That's a fantastic mantra Renee, and one I should probably adopt for tomorrow as I'm going to try to learn the lost wax silver casting method, (gulp), But I completely agree with you that there are no mistakes in painting. Love your horse. Really well done. :)
