I am Positively Going to Be a Grandma

Any day now, I am going to be a grandma!  January 25 is the due date, but one never knows!

I have started an altered book visual journal.  I found this old falling apart Jack and Jill novel by Louisa May Alcott (one of my favourite authors), on the discard pile at school. I have rescued it, removed the ugly plastic jacket cover, glued pages together to keep it from falling apart even more and have begun to alter the pages. It has some really delightful illustrations that I am planning to incorporate into the reflections.

Isn't the cover perfectly delightful?

I have highlighted some key words on several pages that will guide me in my journaling.  I am going to give it to our baby granddaughter when I have filled the pages.  It will have pages about our family, words of encouragement, family recipes, and hopefully, wisdom.

Here are the pages so far.

The person looks nothing like me, except for the eye colour, and perhaps the highlights and hair... oh well.

Here is the dedication page:

The rabbit resembles the cutest rabbit I have seen, Huge Harold by Bill Peets,  next to Beatrix Potter's Benjamin Bunny and Sam McBratney's Little Nutbrown Hare, in a book that I found also on the discard shelf.

The page welcomes her to our beautiful world and a few of my favourite things I hope to show her:

The next page was inspired by today's glorious sunrise and a response to a little boy's statement from my class that pink is for girls:

I hope I sound wise and inspirational, isn't that what grandmas are supposed to be, at least in Hollywood movies they always seem to be?!

I hope to journal each day of this month, hopefully I can complete it by her birth date!  I can't believe it, I am positively going to be a Grandma!  At 46, aren't I lucky to be young enough to have the energy to explore, play, crawl and teach her?  I am sure going to put a lot of kilometres on my Escape driving to Edmonton to play!

  2. What a gorgeous gift you're giving your grandchild and yourself. I know you will make the world a more beautiful and playful place to grow up in. I love the color and lettering. Your sense of delight shines brightly here and I love your self portrait -- it may not "look" like you but it's about you and that's enough. Happy new year!

  5. Delightful! In response to your questions about my dictionary. I have torn out every third or fourth page to accommodate the "fatter" pages with acrylic or whatever on them and then proceed from front to back.
    Thanks for visiting my site.
