Positively Kayaking Through the Clouds

I had my head in the clouds last night when we travelled to Bullshead Reservoir to kayak.  I have never been there before, but have driven by it many, many times!  By the time we arrived, the sun was preparing itself for its nightly rest.  We had a magical night show.

I knew it was going to be a spectacular night when the first to greet us was a little frog.  The second glance was two little fishing boats, the people quiet, lounging, fishing and then... a pelican flew over!

The beautiful thing about this place is that no gas motors are allowed, so there aren't any big waves to fight from huge motorboats, waterskiers and there are no crazy skidooers to watch out for.  It is so peaceful and safe there.

Immediately upon arrival, and a few strokes into the water, I pulled out my new little waterproof camera and began to figure out how to take night time photos.   I spent some time visiting a gopher nibbling on some sweet clover!

The reservoir is surrounded by the Cypress Hills, fields and appears to be a tiny little pond, but once I proceeded on my journey, the reservoir is quite expanse.  There are many little ravines and there is even an island.  It is quite shallow in some places, and you can catch trout!

I was able to follow a family of grebes, muskrats and fortunately, PELICANS!

One by one the pelicans took turns leaving the shore to form an August full moon parade!

It was a pleasure to watch the full moon wake up from his daily rest!

It is one of those nights that you can't help but shed a tear or four with all of the beauty!

I felt like I was kayaking through the clouds towards the end of the night, the water so still and reflecting the grand colours and designs of the beautiful Alberta August night sky!

I hope that one day you can also kayak through the Alberta clouds like me!

Here is a little video about what we can learn from nature:

  1. Stunning photos!!! I love the warm colors of the golden evening light. The pelicans are beautiful, and the night sky with its reflection of the clouds in the water is just gorgeous.
