You Have the Key, Unlock the Door

 

You have the key to unlock that giant door that stands between your inner self and your outer self. You can sit on the enormous door knob or you can insert the key and get on with your life.

This fun but serious intuitive visual journal page evolved over time in my Tuesday adult visual journaling class.  

Every few minutes we pulled a prompt card that asked us to switch media or try a different technique.

We used modeling paste, cheese cloth, inks, watercolour, charcoal, old collage papers, material (burlap), and more.  

We did observational contour drawings, created a poem from a random book page, splattered paint, carved into wet watercolour paint, and tore parts of our collaged paper off of our page after it was glued down.

The hardest part was making sense of what we did and making it all come together cohesively.  It took me till today to finally find a theme and call it finished.  The clues were all there, I just had to use my detective skills and current happenings in my life to piece it all together.

The idea of visual journaling is to enjoy the process and not worry about the outcome.  Worry causes road blocks and prevents us from finishing or moving on.

It is okay to not know the outcome.  When we do the same thing over and over again and take no risks, we get the same results.  

This activity resulted in something I could have never planned and can never duplicate, which makes it creative, unique, interesting and for me, thought provoking.
